Cute.
This one kind reminds me of this real life story in where some technicians sent some small robotic automaton, with a smilely face drawn on it or something like that, on a linear path through a big city. As it went along its path, I think the technicians decided to record it to see how the average citizens would react to it, and surprisingly, most stopped to help get back on it's track whenever it fell down or went wayward.
A Breathtakingly Animated, Simple Lighthearted Steampunk Story.
There isn't anything too remotely complex about the plot(judging from my first of possible multiple viewings), but that does not matter too much, because a simple plot works, it just depends on how you tell it. This author had that knowledge in spades.
On average, the output I see on this site has mostly been Pony parodies, Minecraft parodies, Skyrim parodies, Pokemon parodies, and parodies of PonyMinecraftSkyrimPokemon parodies. In the past few months almost everything I've been remotely enjoying has been glorified reports of popular media stuff and glorified reports of reports of popular media stuff. Regardless of whether those works were well animated or not. suffice to say, I have not been compelled to write a long review expressing my grattitude let alone even criticism in quite awhile... Until now, with this one work posted.
Here, is where I come across a work that is something new, that is somewhat original at least for the most part, and it is not out to get cheap laughs from people who watch a certain TV show, and play a certain videogame . This short, about a shut-in who comes across a visitor who crashes into her bedroom ceiling, is told in an interesting way as there is no dialogue that is heard so we mostly read personalities and emotions from the characters' gestures. This gives the movie an almost timeless antique kind of feeling, like that of a silent movie, sans the speech cards, and in vibrant color. This "antique" feel syncs the story according to the supposed Steampunk 1800s-ish era it took place.
Finally, this short is masterfully and painstakingly animated and detailed. The bedroom is full of all this assorted junk you would typically find in a girl's bedroom. Toys, drawers, family pictures, etc. and all this stuff gets scattered about when the flying bicycle rider crashes into her room. There is directional grace present(an opening shot of a gate covered in thorns, establishing the characterization of a girl who does not go out much. Shot of certain objects in the room, hinting at the girl's past). That, and a generally uplifting mood.
I could imagine another critic other than me who might say that this short might purport the destructive idea of "waiting for good things to come, rather than pursuing them" just because the girl and the boy met completely on accident as the boy crashed into the girl's ceiling unexpectedly, and continuing from that, that other critic would claim that the story was "force feeding the girl a happy ending and a friend"... To which I would disagree with both potential claims because the bicycle boy is an outgoing person, who seems to pursue knowledge/adventure/discovery and all that and actually urged the girl to help him get his flying moterped out of the ceiling to fly off into the sky. The girl, while curious, initially refuses, but manages to convince herself to leave her sheltered life to fly off with the boy into the brave new world, thus, while not giving a psychological profile per se, these events show ample character development.
To the rest of NG, please check out this short as I have given it 5 stars, and I rarely give stuff 5 stars.
To the author of this work. A fantastic and outstanding job well done. Good luck on your next entry.
MANDUCK WILL KILL YOU ALL!!!
Say,
Were those "snails" eggs by any chance?
Eggs, hotdog relish, and green food coloring!
I like the bit of symbolism here idea like with the fact that deity guy looks like an owl, a symbol of wisedom in Ancient Egypt. Also the scene where he offers an apple is reminiscent of the passage in the book of Genesis where the snake offering Eve the fruit from the tree of knowledge, except in a more positive light of course. Funny how Athenos leaves the people he protected behind with all the foundations for civilization, they'll just have to learn how to use what was given to them. I wonder how the people he left behind will be able to decipher an decrypt the words in the book. Perhaps the words in the book are little symbols like hieroglyphics?
I hope this isn't going to be the Wost "Game" Ever.
The environment looks fine and passable except for three details. One would be the rocks around the fire, which look too round and need to be jagged like rocks. The other problem is the lack of shading on the snowy grounds and the grassy patch. Final detail that needs work is the character model, which looks like messy patches of undefined color pallet blobs coming together. His animation is also a little glitchy what with his eyes disappearing. His concept is okay, an old warrior, but he needs better rendering.
Thanks for the crits mate, i know it was a bit sloppy all around but i only just started getting used to motion tweening towards the deadline. Ill try and work on it some more and up everyones opinion of it some more
Was This Flash Getting Whistled For Hateful Or Something?
I notice this flash has been lingering on the the under judgement section, and whenever I click on it, I am redirected to an error page, something that usually happens for whistled entries.
While I must applaud people for being alert, but I think they are mistaken with this entry as I do not believe the author was insensitively targeting those afflicted autistic and Aspergers, he was targeting unoriginality and lazyness.
Just to be clear, I am certain that this short is not meaning to make fun of people with aspergers or put them down. I find it to be satire of all the Skyrim, MLP: FIM, and Minecraft flashes that I see on the front page every single day I login. These flashes tend to make the same "arrow to the knee"/"I'm a 30 year old male and I ironically enjoy this show"/"CREEPERS!!!" jokes over and over. We get it, they're awesome games and properties with massive appeal, we know.
A lot of fans of these properties, especially with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, have gained infamy as they claim to have Asperger's and they defend their lazily written fanfiction by using their Asperger's as crutch, and it gives people with Asperger's syndrome a bad name in process. It is that aspect that I think the author was specifically attacking.
This flash gave me a good chuckle. I thought it was okay
No I just had a problem uploading it with the original project I started so I had to make a new project. Just weird technical issues.
A true classic.
I could watch this forever and ever.
I'm watch it all the time even when I'm not actually watching it.
Pretty Decent For A First Submission.
The art and animation is very cartoony and the dialogue is funny. I also like how you implement music from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening in your little twisted Christmas story featuring this clownish comic duo. However, there is one big little flaw in your flash that ruins the sequence. The sound is not quite synched, you might want to go back and fix that.
Thanks for the review. A lot of people are saying the audio's off, and doing a little testing I see that if I click away from the page and come back it will be off. Unfortunately I don't know how to make it so that's not a problem. If you have any ideas I'd be very thankful to hear them.
Yoshi Is Fed Up.
I thought this was pretty decent. The animation while a little rough, was cute and a visible effort was put into the movements of the characters, a contrast to a lot of the stiff stuff I usually see.
My only gripe with this little parody is that I would like to see more, like Yoshi actually riding Mario and punching him in the neck to see how he likes that.
There's also more material to bring up. Like the fact that some times you have to dump Yoshi when jumping over a pit to reach a secret area that is out of your reach. Yoshi could that up.
Abuse it for good, never for evil.
